Call for Papers

After confronting the competition of radio and television, the written press has been debating the challenges of the digital paradigm since the end of the 20th century.

Due to the emergence of a new media ecosystem, the traditional model of production, diffusion and reception of printed journalism is currently undergoing a complex reconfiguration. This is still framed by blurry boundaries, from a professional, sociopolitical, cultural, economic, technical, ethical and legal point of view.

On the occasion of the centennial of the Diário do Minho regional newspaper, the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences and the Center for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies (UCP-Braga) invite the academic community and professionals of the sector to (re)think the role of print media in this digital ecosystem within the scope of an international congress.

We welcome research from (though not exclusively) the following topics:

1) Theory and culture of journalism: transformations / continuity, news-values, etc.

2) Digital convergence: multimedia, printed / online, TV / Radio / Press, etc.

3) Change of status and professional practices: relationship with sources, multitasking, precariousness, etc.

4) Ethical and legal issues: copyright, plagiarism, fake news, concealed advertising, etc.

5) Transformations of the economic model: publicity, gratuity / signatures, concentration of media and pluralism, traineeships use, etc.

6) (Re)creation of content: information, knowledge, advertising, services and entertainment;

7) Infomedia competition: access providers, search engines, online sharing platforms, social networks, etc.

8) New writings: multimedia storytelling, 3D, immersive reports, photojournalism, transmedia journalism, etc.

9) New partnerships: collaborative investigative journalism, etc.

10) Specialized press: regional and proximity, confessional, sport, economic, women, etc.

11) Audiences in the digital age: reception, media education, audimetrics (click and views, prosumers, disintermediation, algorithms and datification.

12) Other thematic lines.
